Google Analytics Events

Events are user interactions with content that can be tracked independently from a page load. Common events include downloads (brochures or other files), video plays, interactions with a slider or menu, etc. The three main elements of an event in Google Analytics are Category, Action, and Label.

Sample Google Analytics Event Scenarios

Video Tracking

Jane wants to track her website users when they watch her “Welcome” video. She might decide to configure the event as such:

  • Category: Video
  • Action: Play
  • Label: Welcome Video

Add to Cart

Jane wants to track her website users when they add a product to the shopping cart. She might decide to configure the event as such:

  • Category: Product
  • Action: Add to Cart
  • Label: PRODUCTNAME
